Between 2005-2010, Alachua Conservation Trust brought these 600 acres of wetlands and adjacent uplands of mesic forests and meandering small creeks into conservation. The hydrology of Lake Tuscawilla water levels which range from moderately high to very dry in times of drought defines the ecology of the wetlands and surrounding forest. Here in these wetlands you can find herons, ibises, wood storks as well as resident Sandhill Cranes who make this their home and nesting site. Not just birds but also breeding populations of reptiles and amphibians thrive here as well. And in the the surrounding forest mammals including including deer, bobcat, raccoons and otters make their way and raptors nest and perch in the trees and hunt along the Savannah. Here in this preserve you will find a 1.5 mile system of trails. picnic facilities and a viewing platform looking out over the preserve.
